A Trip To San Felipe, Baja California

Not many have heard about the town of San Felipe, Mexico.  This is a town of about 26,000 located on the Baja Peninsula along the Sea of Cortez.

The government of Mexico designated San Felipe as a tourist development zone and as a result has committed millions to developing San Felipe. The obvious start of this development commitment has been doubling the lanes between San Felipe and Mexicali. Up until fairly recently, the approximately 185KM between San Felipe and Mexicali was mostly one lane in each direction with a number of sharp turns.  This has seen tremendous improvements with most of the lanes being doubled and sharp turns smoothed out.

The Malecon, the downtown boardwalk with restaurants and shops is also experiencing a major make over.  New palm trees have been planted and lots of beautification work is in progress.

Accommodation options in San Felipe vary, there are basically hotels and rental homes.  Hotels are mostly centered in town with hotels like El Cortez.  Over the past 5 years, renting a vacation rental home in San Felipe has become very popular.  Many rental homes were bought with family vacations as the primary motivation and renting out these homes were a secondary motivation, this translates into bargains on rental homes in San Felipe.  The largest selection of rental homes can by found on MySanFelipeVacation.com

Now you have decided  on your accommodation and you are looking for entertainment.  For first time visitors, the Malecon is a must visit.  The most popular club on the Malecon is Rockodile, this club plays hip-hop like music and is very popular with locals and visitors alike.

At night, the blocks surrounding the Malecon are circled by cars and ATVs with folks kicking back and having drinks and enjoying people watching.
